Below is an example of a straightforward letter that was written to West Edmonton Mall several years ago. You of course will need to change the target corporation/business, and the issues in the body of the letter. Letters should be short, respectful, and to the point.
Mr. G.Hanson
General Manager
West Edmonton Mall
(Include full address if it is a mailed letter)
Please relocate Howard to a facility where he can live his final years as a dolphin should. Please also commit to the WEM promise not to bring any more dolphins into the facility. The public is becoming increasingly sophisticated about the harm to wildlife when limited to concrete worlds. It would be in the mall’s long-term best interest to stop bringing the wilderness into the city.
Over the years I have boycotted WEM and have encouraged others to do so as well. This decision was based on your Dolphin tank and on the presence of PJ’s Pets. As an educator, I have also had discussions surrounding unethical business practices and organizations that put profit before compassion. Please give me a reason to return to your mall and to encourage others to do so as well. Please also give me a reason to tell my students that WEM is an organization above reproach.
I look forward to your reply.
